Recently, The amendments on furniture international standards of ISO 16502-1 Furniture — Assessment of the ignitability of mattresses and upholstered bed bases — Part 1: Ignition source: smouldering cigarette and ISO 16502-2 Furniture — Assessment of the ignitability of mattresses and upholstered bed bases — Part 2: Ignition source: match flame equivalent led by SQI has been approved officially.

The two proposed standards take cigarette and gas flame as ignition sources and define evaluation methods on ignition resistance performance of mattresses and upholstered bed bases. The two standards are supposed to provide significant standard basis for global mattresses manufacturers improving flammability performance to create safer interior sleeping environment.
